Sarah Ruth Brinsmaid, 98, of Lyndonville, NY, passed away to be with her family in Heaven on Thursday August 25, 2016 at the North Wing of Medina Hospital. Born on April 18, 1918 in the Town of Yates, NY she was the daughter of the late Louis W. and Ruth (Barry) Brinsmaid. Sarah attended Lyndonville High School, graduating in 1936 and went on to SUNY Brockport, obtaining her degree in Physical Education. Her first teaching position was in Gorham, NY and later at Buffalo State College where she retired from. Sarah, along with her sister Lucile, ran a summer camp for girls called “Brin-Lyn” for many years on South Main Street in Lyndonville. She opened her swimming pool for the children of the community for many years, teaching many of the youth in the Lyndonville area how to swim. Sarah was a member of the United Methodist Church, holding the position of treasurer. She was also a very active member of the United Way, having been named Woman of Year by that Association. Sarah served as President of the NYS Association of Women in Physical Education. She enjoyed raising Morgan horses, travelling, gardening, playing bridge and riding around town in her golf cart. She is predeceased by her brothers, Sanford, twins Barry and Bernard, sisters, Lucile and Julia (William) Krenning, nephew, Louis Frederick and her horse “Chloe”. Sarah is survived by nephews, Bruce (Diane) Krenning of Albion, NY, Mark (Mary) Brinsmaid of Albany, NY, nieces, Sue Hermonat of Madison, CT, Cynthia (Thomas) Cunningham of North Creek, NY, Sandra (Gary) Kosiorek of Lyndonville, cousins, George (Billi Jo) Brinsmaid of Winston Salem, NC and Jean Brinsmaid of Cincinnati, OH, She is also survived by eighteen great-nieces and nephews and her best friend and companion, Annette “Nip” Bettinger of Lyndonville, NY and many caring neighbors, especially Terry and Carla Woodworth of Lyndonville, NY. Relative and friends may call on Saturday, September 3, 2016 from 1 pm -2 pm at the Lyndonville United Methodist Church, 102 N. Main St. Lyndonville, NY 14098, where a funeral service will be held at 2:00pm with the Pastor, Rev. Beth Malone officiating. Burial will be at the Lynhaven Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Sarah’s name to: Hospice of Orleans County, PO Box 489, Albion NY 14411, Medina Memorial Hospital, 200 Ohio Street, Medina NY 14103 or to the Lyndonville United Methodist Church.
