The Rev. John R. Klatt, 66, of Lyndonville, NY died November 13, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born January 21, 1953 in Medina, NY, son of the Paul and Lois (Nobles) Klatt.
John attended Lyndonville High School, graduating in 1971. His education continued at The State University of NY at Alfred; Concordia College, Bronxville, NY; Concordia Senior College, Fort Wayne, IN; and Seminary in Exile (Seminex), St. Louis, MO where he received his Master of Divinity. He was ordained in 1981 and served as a Minister of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America for 35 years. Congregations served throughout New York State include: Zion Lutheran Church in Frewsburg, Trinity Lutheran Church in Herkimer, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Redwood, Evangelical Lutheran Church in Orleans Corners, All Saints Lutheran Church in Hamburg, St. John’s Lutheran Church in West Seneca, and Abiding Savior Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda. In early 2016 he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma that he courageously fought into remission until his sudden death. This past August, he was blessed to have trekked across Iceland with the Moving Mountains for Multiple Myeloma organization to raise money for finding a cure for this cancer. God, family, and love were most important to him. He found joy in the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and hiking.
His father, Paul H. Klatt, predeceases him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Bonnie; daughter Jasmine (Bryan) Belflower; son Joseph (Amy) Klatt; 4 grandchildren; his mother, Lois; his uncle, Robert Nobles and aunt, Marion Howe; brothers Thomas (Kathy) Klatt and Stephen (Lori) Klatt; sister Mary (Nathan) Schlabach; nieces and nephews; and many cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 1:00 PM at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1355 West Ave, Medina, NY 14103.
