John Bidell Obituary

John David Bidell, 77, of Medina, New York, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 13, 2020. John passed away at the Orchard Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Medina, New York, after a brief non-COVID related illness.

John was born on January 28, 1943 in Medina, New York to the late William and Esther (Ackerson) Bidell. John lived in Medina nearly all of his life. He began working with his family at the age of 7, helping to clean the Methodist church he grew up in. John held a number of different jobs throughout his working career, most recently as a custodian in the Medina Central School District. He had a knack for getting stains and marks out of anything, and a love for turning other peoples’ trash into treasures. John also served in the United States Army for three years between 1962-1965, receiving an Honorable Discharge. John was a member of the Oak Orchard Assembly of God Church. John moved into the Orchard Manor Nursing Home in April, 2007 after living at home briefly from a major stroke that left him partially paralyzed and wheelchair-bound. John never lost his sense of humor, and he never met a person who wasn’t a friend-in-waiting.

John is survived by his four children, Tammy Bidell of Honeoye, NY, Jeffery Bidell of Medina, NY, Amanda (Joseph) Prewitt of Clintondale, NY, and Bradley Bidell of Rhinelander, WI. John is survived by his grandchildren, Charles, Christina, Brian, Kimberely (TJ), Rachel, and Ashlynn, as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. John is also survived by his older brother, Paul (Jane) Bidell of Cleveland, OH.

John was predeceased by his parents, his foster brother David Draper, his daughter-in-law Cathy Bidell, and five grandchildren.
