Douglas Coon Obituary

Douglas L. Coon, 85, of Medina, NY, went to be with the Lord on January 1st, 2019 at his home with his loving family at his side.

Born on November 11, 1933 in the town of Ridgeway, NY, he was the son of the late W. Sheldon and Rhea (Gray) Coon.

He grew up in Shelby Basin and at the age of 17 worked at FMC. Douglas enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard on the USS Helena CA75 and after four years of service, he returned home and started a family with his first wife and in 1974 he married his current wife, the former Theresa Barkley and continued to work at FMC, retiring in 1995. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and ice fishing, hunting and playing cards. Doug was also a member of the Community Fellowship Church.

Doug is survived by his wife of 44 years, Theresa, nine children, Paul (Marina) Coon of Kings Land, GA; Colleen Doerschler of Galesburg, MI; Pamela (Karl) Koch of Depew, NY; Douglas (Barb) Michaud of Medina, NY; Maryjane Buzard of Myrtle Beach, SC; Ann Kennedy of Batavia, NY; Hazel (Terry) Cox of Summerville, SC; Kathy Michaud of Knowlesville, NY; Edward (Beth) Lake of Bouckville, NY; six siblings, Robert Coon of Lyndonville, NY; Duane (Debbie) Coon of Middleport, NY; Lucinda Egan of Medina, NY; Raymond Coon of the Southern Tier; Shirley Raetz of Lockport, NY; Alice (John) Tirtadjaja of Lockport, NY and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Doug is predeceased by his first wife, the former Beverly Luff, a brother, Roger Coon and a sister, Carol Szalay. Relatives and friends may call on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the Community Fellowship Church, 3144 Johnson Creek Rd. Middleport, NY, 14105 from 11AM-12PM, where a funeral service will be held at 12 Noon with his nephew, the Pastor Rev. Joe Szalay officiating. Burial will be in the Bates Rd. Cemetery with Full Military Honors will be accorded by members of the Lincoln Post #1483 Veterans of Foreign Wars and Butts-Clark Post #204 American Legion.

Memorials may be made in Doug’s name to the Community Fellowship Church.
