Claudia Jean Howland

Claudia Jean Howland, 72, of East Shelby, NY, entered into rest on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the Medina Memorial Hospital.

Born on April 6, 1954, in Batavia, NY, she was the daughter of the late LaVan and Sally (Lawton) Maerten.

Claudia graduated from Medina High School in 1972, and in June 1973, she married Gary Howland. Together, they raised four sons. After caring for her children, Claudia worked at the Nice & Easy in Medina, Bernzomatic, and lastly, at Baxter. Claudia enjoyed playing bingo and going on “road trips”. She was affectionately known as “Mom” to everyone who knew her and later known as “Nanny” to the grandchildren, whom she enjoyed spending time with.

Claudia is survived by her husband of 53 years, Gary Howland, her four sons, Aaron (Tanya) Howland, Phillip (Angie Davis) Howland, Jonathan (Kelly) Howland and Timothy (Yvonne) Howland, her seven grandchildren, Tyler; Sierra (Matthew); Lacey (Ian); Devon; Derek (Laura); Jacob; and Andrea, and four great-grandchildren, Brielle, Olive, Amethyst, and Nolan. Also surviving is a brother, William (Marcia) Maerten, two nieces, Diane and Syvanna, and two nephews, James and Aiden, and two special cousins, Herb Chamberlain and Debbie DiPiazza.

As per Claudia's wishes, there are no calling hours, and a private service will be held at the family's convenience.
