Betty J. Vargas, 87, of Medina, NY, entered into rest after her courageous 26 yearlong battle with cancer on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at her home with her loving family at her side.
Born on March 16, 1935 in Millville, NY, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Lena (Tanner) Boyce.
Betty graduated from Medina High School in 1953 and was employed with Harrison Radiator for 33 years, retiring in 1991. She was a lifelong communicant of Holy Trinity Parish/ St. Mary’s Church. Betty was an avid doll collector, collecting dolls in all shapes and sizes in her intensive collection. She was also a good cook and baker and was known for her zucchini bread.
Betty is survived by her husband of 58 years, Pedro Vargas, four sons, Duane (Karen) Castricone, Daniel (Larry Calabro) Castricone, Calvin (Michelle Stupnick) Castricone, all of Medina, NY, and Peter (Donna) Vargas of Arizona. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, a brother, Robert (Barb) Boyce of Tennessee and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Betty is predeceased by her siblings, Rosemary Mattoon, Shirley Boyce, Albert Boyce Jr., Helen Johnson and her son, Anthony Castricone, who passed away in 2013.
Relatives and friends may call on Monday, June 27, 2022 from 4PM-7PM at the Bogan & Tuttle Funeral Home, 226 Pearl St. Medina, NY 14103. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Parish/ St. Mary’s Church, 211, West Ave. Medina, NY 14103. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
