Barbara M. Smith, 85, of Lyndonville, NY, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at her home.
Born on August 31, 1933, in Lyndonville, NY, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Ruth (Powley) Valentine.
Barb lived in Lyndonville all her life, graduating from Lyndonville High School and married the late Robert Smith. Barb worked various jobs while raising her five children, including FMC, Phinney Tool & Die, waitressing at the Apple Grove Inn, owning and operating Barb’s Lyn-D Lounge in Lyndonville, and lastly worked as a Head Cook for Orleans Correctional. Even after her retirement, Barb worked part-time at Rudy’s Diner. Barb enjoyed cooking and baking, going to the Senior Citizens Center in Medina, short trips with the seniors and going to the casino. In the winters, Barb would take trips to Palm Springs, CA, to visit her children who lived there. Barb’s bright smile was well known and loved throughout the Lyndonville community.
Barb is survived by five children, Cheryl Starenchek of Baldwinsville, NY; Daryl (Ann) Smith of Lyndonville, NY; Joan (Louis) Rossi of Saugus, MA; Jessie Smith of Syracuse, NY; Robert (Michael Barba) Smith of Palm Springs, CA; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Ethel Valentine of Albion, NY, and several nieces and nephews.
Barb is predeceased by a brother, Curtis Valentine and a great granddaughter, Ruby Williams.
As per Barbs wishes, there are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at the West Ridgeway Cemetery in the spring.
