Raymond N. Bates, 89 of Ridgeway, NY, entered into rest on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at the Veterans Hospital in Buffalo, after a short illness.

Born on May 24, 1928 in Medina, NY, he was the son of the late Nelson C. and Lillian (Rook) Bates.

Raymond went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947. Upon returning home, he married the late, former Frances Capurro and together made their home in Lyndonville. Raymond worked at various jobs including, owning and operating with his wife, the Lyndonville Liquor Store, he was a broker for Lyndonville Reality and a salesman for Nationwide Mutual Insurance. While working for the U.S. Postal Service, he owned and operated Bates Modular Home Sales. Raymond retired in 1990. He was a member of the Lyndonville Lions Club, Lyndonville American Legion, Charter member of both the Lyndonville Area Foundation and Orleans Co. Hunt Club. In his spare time he enjoyed going to Nutri Fair, playing cards, watching Lawrence Welk, doing puzzles and reading the newspaper.

Raymond is survived by two children, Betty (James) Moule and Robert (Rose Johnston) Bates, four grandchildren, Lisa (Vincent Rosario) Moule, Anthony (Christina) Moule and Dianna Moule, all of Medina and Ryan (Pam) Bates of Batavia, three great grandchildren, McKayla and Anthony Moule Jr. and Chandler Thigpen, all of Medina. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and close friends, including Patricia Kepner, Russell and Lynn Bentley, Faye Woodworth, Shorty Nellist and all his friends at Nutri Fair.

Besides his wife, Raymond is predeceased by two siblings, Paul Bates and Doris Plummer.

There are no calling hours. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family in the spring. Burial will be in the Bates Road Cemetery with full military honors.
