Albert D. “Al” Houseman, 87, of Lyndonville NY, went to be with the Lord on January 13, 2020 at Medina Memorial Hospital.
Born on December 27, 1932, in the Town of Ridgeway NY, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Ruth (Nellist) Houseman.
Al grew up on the Countyline Rd. and attended Barker School. In 1950, he enlisted in the U.S. Airforce during the Korean War, but was honorably discharged in 1951 due to hardship on the family farm. On August 16, 1952, he married the late Joyce Houseman and together they raised two children and a collection of grandchildren. Al was employed with the former Crosby-Whipple Oil Co. of Lyndonville as a mechanic, delivering oil and performing other shop duties. He was a proud member of the Houseman-Tanner Post# 1603 American Legion, which was named after his cousin, Howard Houseman who served in WWI. Al was the family historian and started the Houseman Family Reunions and an all-round handyman, who loved tinkering on his red wheel horse tractor, which he owned for over 40 years. He loved mowing his lawn and snow blowing. Al loved giving hugs and was known by his nieces and nephews as Uncle”Bum.”
Al is survived by two children, Delane (Lisa) Houseman of Barre, VT., Sandra (Glen) Gapa of Lyndonville, grandchildren, Shawn (Lacy) Houseman, Jason (Jillian) Houseman, Derek (Laura) Houseman, William Gapa, Victoria (Jason) Hill, Nathaniel and Meghan Gapa, Keera (Clint) Relation, Kyle Dennis, eleven great-grandchildren, Andrew, Cassandra, Tamara, Aurora, Amelia, Aralyn, Samuel, Aaliyah, Elijah, Ellie, Addie and Luke, adopted daughter, Roxane (Paul) Mann and Kyle and Justin and numerous nieces and nephews. Al is predeceased by his five siblings, Frank, Viola, Clayton and David Houseman and Rena Sevenski. The Houseman family would like to thank the staff at Applegate Manor, Medina Hospital, and his final caregivers at the Hospice of Orleans and a special thank you to his night time Vigil Team, Penny Nice, Roxane Mann and his niece, Debra Miller.
Relatives and friends may call on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at The Grove United Methodist Church, 11004 W. Center St. Ext. Medina NY 14103, from 10 AM-12Noon, where a funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM with the Pastor, Rev. Larry Eastlack officiating and Pastor, Ronald Houseman co- officiating.
Burial will be in the Lynhaven Cemetery with full military honors accorded by Houseman-Tanner Post# 1603 American Legion, Lincoln Post #1483 VFW and Butts-Clark Post #204 American Legion.
