Walter “Pops” Hill, 89, of Middleport, NY, entered into rest on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at the Newfane Rehab & Health Facility. Born on August 10, 1926 in Cottonton, Alabama, he was the son of the late Waverly and Mary Belle (Cox) Hill. Walter moved to New York in 1959 and married the former and late Aquilla “Snooks” Lowman to whom he was married to for 47 years and resided in the Lyndonville/Medina/ Middleport area. Walter’s passion was farming, raising pigs and cows and growing corn. While farming, he also was employed for 20 years at F.M.C. in Middleport. He enjoyed baseball and was a diehard Atlanta Braves fan. Walter is survived by four children, Levy (Gloria) Hill of Medina; Dale (Roslyn) Hill of Sarasota, FL; Teresa Banks of Columbus, GA; Tammy Hill of Barker, NY; A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends, two God sons, Kenny Thomas, Gene Lonnen and others. Pops is predeceased by a daughter, Mollie Jean Hill; a grandson, Waverly Walter Hill, great-grandson, Shamaine Hill, six siblings, William Hill, Levy Foy Hill, Sherrie Spikes, Sandra Hill, Minnie Mae Screw and Marie Gilcrist. Relatives and friends may call on Saturday, July 16, 2016 from 11 AM- 1PM at the Bethel Baptist Church, Allis Rd. Medina, NY 14103, where a funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Walters name to: Alzheimer’s Association, 2805 Wehrle Dr, Buffalo, NY 14221.
