Roger W. “Jolly Roger” Coon Sr. 84, of Medina, NY, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 23, 2016 at the Medina Memorial Hospital. Born on April 26, 1932 in Shelby, NY, he was the son of the late Sheldon and Rhea Coon. Roger grew up in Medina and at the age of seventeen, enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. On returning home he worked various jobs, including Harrisons, FMC and lastly worked as a Head Stock Clerk for Kodak for 27 years, retiring in 1991. After his retirement, he drove school bus for Ridge Road Express of Albion. He attended the Oak Orchard Assembly of God Church and was a member of the Junior Wilson Sportsman’s Club and the Medina V.F.W. Post #1483. In his spare time, Roger enjoyed hunting and fishing. Roger is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lorena Coon of Medina; eight children, Darlene (Edward) Fishette of Medina; Sandy (Jerry) Kwiatkowski of Akron, NY; David (Eileen) Coon of Houston, TX; Jeffery Coon of Lockport, NY; Roger Coon Jr. of Lyndonville, NY; Kimberly LaBarge of Rochester, NY; Eric (Theresa) Coon of Georgia; Laurie Blount Midkiff of Virginia, 15 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, seven siblings, Doug (Theresa) Coon of Medina; Robert Coon of Medina; Dwayne (Debbie) Coon of Middleport; Cindy Egan of Medina; Shirley Raetz of Lockport; Alice Tirtatjaja of Wrights Corners; Raymond Coon of Penn Yan. Also, many nieces and nephews and he is predeceased by a sister, Carol Szalay. Relatives and friends may call on Friday, July 29, 2016 for 10 AM – 11 AM at the Oak Orchard Assembly of God Church, 12111 Ridge Rd. Medina, N.Y. 14103 with a Memorial Service Celebration at 11:00 AM the Rev. Stanley A. Thurber officiating. Military Honors will be accorded after the Celebration by members of the Lincoln Post # 1483 Veterans of Foreign Wars and Butts- Clark Post# 204 American Legion. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made in Roger’s name to: Oak Orchard Assembly of God Church, 12111 Ridge Rd. Medina, NY 14103.
