Beverly Joyce Jones

May 20, 1932 ~ September 21, 2016 (age 84) 84 Years Old
Beverly Joyce Jones died on September 21st, in Buffalo, NY, after a brief illness. Beverly was born in Flushing, NY on May 20th, 1932. She graduated from Ithaca College, and married her college sweetheart, from nearby Cornell University, Ronald William Jones. Bev and Ron were married for over 50 years, and although they moved numerous times for Ron’s job including; San Diego, CA, Apalachin, Binghamton, Utica, (all in New York State), Ormond Beach FL, and Burlington, VT, Beverly was instrumental in developing strong community ties wherever she lived. Beverly co-created the extraordinarily detailed, and wildly scary, haunted houses that snaked through the family’s 1st floor and garage in Apalachin, NY, every October, for more than 15 years. That event became so popular, that traffic jams, (and possible litigation), forced the local authorities to ask them to move the Haunted House out of their home, and to a local school. Beverly worked with teenagers, both as a mentor, and a youth group organizer, in all the parishes she served in. She, together with her husband, created The Living Stations of the Cross, a dramatic representation of Christ’s last days, written and performed by 15-18 year olds, which continues to this day. She and Ron hosted numerous foreign exchange students over the years; from India, Denmark, Norway, and Mexico, and remained close with those students long after they’d left the country. Beverly was a skilled gardener, sharing her abundance of flowers, and various vegetables with family, neighbors and numerous charitable organizations-her Zucchini bread was renowned. She was funny, generous, loved her family above all else, and had a soft spot for dogs and cats. She will be greatly missed. Beverly is survived by her five children, Suzanne, Christy, Philip, Heidi, Terence, seven grand-children, and two great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Ron and a son, Durl. A mass of remembrance will be held at The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Williamsville, NY on October 1st at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Beverly’s name to a charity of one’s choice.
